1. Senideak Report

  2. Josu BEAUMONT BARBERENA espulsio harriskuan Gose greba mugagabeari ekin dio (Josu Beaumont has been on a hunger strike since February 4, 1998 in protest of the threat of his transfer from France to Spain).
From SENIDEAK we inform you of the grave situation of JOSU BEAUMONT BARBERENA, basque political prisoner from Irunea, who is now finishing his sentence in the Central Penitentiary of St Martin de RE (France).

JOSU BEAUMONT BARBERENA was arrested in June of 1992 in Burdeos and sentenced by the Parisian tribunal to 8 years.

On March 16 he will finish his sentence and although the Spain has issued no extradition and has no judicial processes against him he will be expelled to Spain and put in the hands of the Civil Guard or the National Police.

From SENIDEAK we denounce this process as illegal and in violation of article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights, "NO ONE SHALL BE DELIVERED TO A COUNTRY WHERE THEY WILL RISK BEING VICTIM OR TORTURE OR MALTREATMENT." An infinite number of testimonies confirm that this possibility is a reality for practically all of the basque refugees expelled by this process (see annex).

We denounce that the French government omits legalities when it is convenient for them; the most clear example of this being in the post judicial declaration regarding the expulsion of JOSE DOMINGO AIZPURUA (6/2/94) in which it declared the illegality of this method and denounced the delivery of basque prisoners (having completed their sentences) into the hands of the Civil Guard and/or the Spanish Police.

Iruñea, January 26 1998.
